Extra washers let you keep your axle nuts at the end of the thread so that you don't ruin it. The washers included with trucks are often not enough. Minimizing wheel side movement will also make your bearings last longer, spacers or not. These are a bit thicker than inch pattern standard washers you get with trucks. It's very useful to combine thicknesses to get the right spacing.

They do what they are supposed to do. I got them cause I almost lost one of my speed rings while changing my set up. It's a good back up.
