In the search for suitable griptape, there is now a very diverse selection. Aside from different colours, in recent years there has been a trend toward graphic-printed griptape. There is where Grizzly Griptape shines, bringing logo prints and even a tie-dye option to the market. The relatively young brand is the brainchild of Torey Pudwill, who founded the company when he was only 12 years old. In the beginning, Torey simply used Black Magic griptape and punched out the familiar bear logo. Over time, the company has steadily grown and now offers an entire clothing line, complementary hardware, as well as cruisers and accessories.
From Grizzly Grease to Grizzly Grip
Although today, Grizzly is primarily known as a griptape company with the well-known bear logo, Torey Pudwill first began with the production of skate wax. Under the name, Grizzly Grease, he created skate wax with the aid of a bear-shaped baking mould. Later, the very first griptape followed. Thanks to the baking mould, both the name and the logo of the brand were created.
As a twelve-year-old, Pudwill was already establishing himself as a professional skateboarder. At the age of 14, he shifted his focus entirely on skating and the products he had been creating at home were put on the backburner. Five years later, at the age of 19, Torey decided to revive his old passion. Together with Nick Tershay from Diamond Supply Co, he created his first line of griptape. The first T-shirts followed shortly after.
Pudwill still remembers the very first Grizzly shirt: "I think we were going to the Transworld Awards one night when I had a video part and these dudes surprised me with T-shirts." Nowadays, the logo with the bear can be seen everywhere - whether at Street League events or in the newest parts.
Grizzly Griptape is repped by an extensive team of skaters, ranging from Mike Anderson to Carlos Zarazua. Accordingly, Grizzly will keep you on your toes. Meanwhile, you can find griptape, wax, as well as streetwear and accessories in the Grizzly Brand Shop at skatedeluxe!
