“Others take themselves seriously and not their products... we take our product seriously and not ourselves.” This is the guiding principle for Welcome Skateboards and it holds true in their entire philosophy as well as their range of products. The brand, founded in 2009 by Jason Celaya in California, with a hefty dose of self-irony may come off as obstreperous, but you’ll quickly realise: these guys know what they’re doing. The skateboard decks from Welcome are processed with a very high level of quality and the old skool shapes are spiced up with detailed, colourful, and completely wild graphics whose motifs are usually whimsical hybrid creatures. If you love skateboarding and do not care about the typical conventions in the scene: Welcome to the Welcome Skateboards Brand Shop at skatedeluxe!
100 % DIY Skateboarding Spirit
Although Welcome was founded at a time when many small brands were launched, the company is fully unique in its origins. Contrary to many of the skateboard deck brands founded at the time, there are no former or active pros behind this project. Welcome Skateboards started with just $2000 in capital and the idea to bring truly different decks to the market. Founder Jason Celaya was not at all satisfied with the selection at the time. He saw himself surrounded by boring graphics on the same old deck shapes over and over. So he started distributing boards to his friends designed according to his own ideas and the colourful Welcome decks soon appeared in skate parks all over the world.
The Welcome Skateboards Team
Meanwhile, the team was also built on a solid foundation and with Jordan Sanchez and Ryan Lay, they now officially have two pro riders. The team is rounded off by power couple Nora Vasconcellos and Daniel Vargas, as well as the Pyramid Country Connection from the southwestern USA. Anyone who is interested in unusual tricks with a lot of transitioning skateboarding should take a look at the company's numerous online videos.
Welcome Shaped Decks – in all shapes and sizes
The biggest difference between Welcome and the other players is probably the complete renunciation of the usual popsicle shapes. In a sense, this is also a tribute to past times, when every pro-model also had its own unique kind of shape developed by the pros themselves. Despite the appearance, Welcome decks should not be prematurely lumped into the cruiser and old school deck categories. These decks are also suitable for street and flip tricks of any kind, just look at any one of Ryan Lay’s parts.
Welcome Skateboards Streetwear
Of course, you’ll find Welcome streetwear along with their decks in the skatedeluxe Online Skate Shop. From Welcome caps and T-shirts to long sleeves and hoodies, we’ve got the right pieces for every season. Thanks to their front and back prints as well as the detailed illustrations, they’re also extremely contemporarily fashionable.
