A NAME BY HAPPENSTANCE - A SHORT HISTORY OF SECTOR 9

It all started in a backyard in La Jolla, California next to a ramp, a shaping room and a ping pong table. In a house, there stood a billiards table. One of the dudes that hung out there used the term "Nineballs" to refer to his mates and one day when he called his Californian friends, he was forwarded to the answering machine and left the message: "What’s going on over there at Sector 9?" A few boards that just needed a finish and a logo were lying around the Sector 9 house waiting to be completed.

And just like that, the name and logo for the entire company were found! The self-built boards got a lot of attention in the neighbourhood and so Sector 9 started to produce skateboards on a larger scale.

MAPLE, BAMBOO, FIBREGLASS, CARBON FIBRE AND EPOXY - SECTOR 9 CONSTRUCTIONS

Longboards can be made of all different kinds of materials and have varying characteristics. Sector 9 knows this and, therefore, offers various boards in numerous designs. Depending on the purpose, you’ll find decks made of bamboo or maple; with fibreglass or without, or even with carbon fibre reinforcement for maximum stiffness.

Even decks with a core of specially bonded maple or bamboo can be found here. All Sector 9 decks are treated with epoxy resin, which gives you better flex and longer durability.
