You can’t think of longboard wheels without thinking Orangatang. And rightly so, because hardly any wheel brand is as popular as Orangatang. These longboard wheels, also known as Otangs, are not only characterised by their creative names and colourful designs, but by the various racing titles over the years. These were almost completely dominated by Orangatang and if nothing else, have proved the unimaginable popularity of the wheels in all disciplines, all age levels and across the world.
If you want something done right, you have to do it yourself – Loaded & Orangatang
The Orangatang brand belongs to Loaded Longboards. When Loaded was first founded, you still had to rely on third-party wheels for your longboards, but they soon realised that if you want real quality wheels, you’ve got to make them yourself. Thus, the idea for Orangatang Wheels was born and took shape. Since Loaded Longboards specialised primarily in the cruising and carving disciplines, the first Orangatang wheels were created according to these specifications and the Orangatang In Heat and 4 President were released. Equipped with sharp lips and the now legendary "Happy Thane", these wheels offer the necessary performance for hard carves and provide solid grip in all situations. Since these characteristics are not only used for carving, but also in the racing sector, Orangatang wheels were soon seen on various victories in international racing circuit, which made them all the more popular. Once the glossy layer of the wheels is worn out, they become smooth and soft, making them also interesting for freeriding.
Orangatang Wheels for every Discipline of Longboarding
The development of new shapes and urethane blends was only a matter of time. These enabled Orangatang to conquer other disciplines such as freeriding, which has become increasingly popular. Today the wheels come in different blends like the classic Happy Thane for grip, Euphorethane for slides, Peachy Thane for all sorts of freeriding and Perky Thane for tech sliding and use in skateparks. Combining this with the different shapes, you can create the perfect setup for any condition. Orangatang Wheels are now leaders in all types of longboarding, from cruising to carving, dancing and freeriding to downhill. And thanks to constant development and training they will continue to be at the forefront of longboarding!
The right hardness – the reason behind Orangatang's colouring
To the trained observer, it’s instantly clear that the wheels from Orangatang are brightly coloured, but also that there aren’t so many different colours as with other wheel brands. That’s because of Orangatang’s colour coding which indicates how hard the wheels are. Orange and purple (80A and 82A) are the original variations and were later joined by yellow (86A). Minimalism and functionality meet here. One model, however, differs from the rest. The Orangatang Onsens are this brand’s first wheels made for street and park skateboarding.
Uncensored Nipples – Orangatang Bushings
Anyone who is as familiar with urethane as the guys from Orangatang also knows what’s important in really great bushings. As with their longboard wheels, Orangatang doesn’t mess around with visual trickery when it comes to bushings. They keep it simple and work on perfecting their products. The Orangatang Nipples Bushings first appeared in the Loaded full-length boards, but then became so popular that they were also offered individually and can now be found in thousands of longboard setups. Their success is attributable to the bushings’ urethane composition, which was originally intended for wheels, but had way too much rebound and then found its place in the bushing sector. Now you can equip your longboards & skateboards with Orangatang bushings in the skatedeluxe skate shop and enjoy plenty of rebound and fresh driving behaviour. This is how successful development looks!
We look forward to seeing what Orangatang's future has to offer and will keep you up to date in the Orangatang Shop at skatedeluxe.
