From Uni to the Garage – The Founding of Olson&Hekmati

For more than 10 years now, Oliver Dehmel and Björn Hekmati have been working together on longboard decks and over time, have continued to evolve. Driven by the simple desire to build custom decks and to explore the possibilities and limitations of the construction of boards, they began to develop new shapes together in Mainz in 2006.

Still located in Mainz, the student garage workshop has grown into a real brand that combines innovation, design, efficiency and the love of wood. Through this, decks are created that are particularly elegant thanks to their simplicity. It’s no wonder, considering the brains behind Olson&Hekmati are those of thoroughbred longboarders, who always find time to take their boards to the limit.

Although the guys at Olson&Hekmati had to learn the hard way until they reached their current standard, they hard work certainly paid off, as the brand has gradually developed a unique combination of functionality, design and pioneering production methods of longboards.

The development of Olson & Hekmati - From a custom shop to a real brand!

Olson&Hekmati’s early days were characterised by experiments, development and the appropriation of a well-founded know-how. It was based exclusively on direct customer requests and functioned as a small custom boardsmith. In 2010, they finally decided to develop a standard line-up of boards, which has emerged as the smallest common denominator of the custom boards of the past years. Through significantly fewer individual consultations and special wishes, they could now produce more boards in a shorter time and establish themselves as a force to be reckoned with in the scene.

The move to their first real workshop took place in 2011 and the grand opening of their shop and workshop in Mainz followed in 2013; Including their very own mini-ramp and yard. Since then, Olson&Hekmati now has a good 20 skateboarders and longboarders who, together with their family atmosphere- including sharing meals together in the yard, and skate trips and celebrations- continues to push the development of new and better decks and shapes with true passion. In addition, they’ve gone a step further and also produce fitting Olson&Hekmati wheels, ball bearings and shock pads.

Accordingly, the brand is committed to its hometown of Mainz, which is a meeting place for locals and friends of longboards from around the world. The in-house Olson & Hekmati racing team has already placed in the top 10 at multiple contests and has achieved significant success.

But what is most important is the vibe and the love of speed. And this is shared by riders like Pablo Quiles, Alex Dehmel, Leon Ritter, Aero Gero, Pedro Lopes, Sven Willy, Leon Stojkovic and Danger Dan. It’s clear to see that at the core of this team is good times with great friends!
