FROM "ANDRÉ THE GIANT" STICKER TO OBEY CLOTHING
Shepard printed his first sticker in 1989. What began as a joke became an obsession. His stickers first appeared in Providence, Rhode Island, and quickly spread along the East Coast and beyond.
1995, he stylized the icon face based on the OG sticker, inspired by George Orwell, Russian Constructivism and Barbara Kruger's use of font and color. He revolutionized street art and was already committed to introducing skate culture and design into the art world – a point that remains a focus for OBEY Clothing to this day.
